A woman attempted to rob the Petro-Canada and McDonalds restaurant on Highway 99 in Squamish early Thursday morning at about 4:15 a.m., according to Squamish RCMP.

The Squamish woman who is known to police was later arrested. Though she claimed to have a gun during the robbery, no weapon was found.

"A lone female went into both shops looking for money, trying to rob both businesses," said Sgt. Jolaine Percival.

"[She] didn't obtain any money and then fled before police arrived."

While employees were on hand at both establishments and likely shaken up, no one was hurt, Percival added.

From a description provided by employees and surveillance video, the woman was identified, located and arrested, Percival said.

“Obviously, we are a small district, but we are getting bigger so you are potentially going to see more of these,” she said. “Fortunately we were right on scene pretty quickly so we were able to obtain the information we needed to solve this.”
