It’s going to be a hot weekend.

Soaring temperatures this weekend have led Environment Canada to issue a Special Weather Statement for Squamish and the rest of Howe Sound.

Temperatures are expected to peak this weekend with at least 32 Celcius forecast for the south coast.

“A few daily record high temperatures will likely be broken with this heat wave,” Environment Canada says.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors, warns the national weather service, adding to, “Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions. Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.”

Also, never leave pets inside a parked vehicle.

It’s expected to cool down on Monday.
