Climber injured in fall

A climber is in critical condition and has undergone several surgeries after a 20- metre fall in the Smoke Bluffs Park on Sunday, June 12, Squamish RCMP reported.

BC Ambulance Service removed the climber and airlifted him to Vancouver General Hospital, according to police. The man’s family was contacted and has travelled from out of province to the hospital, police said.

Pair trapped after crash

A woman and child were temporarily trapped inside their SUV after an accident on Monday, June 6, police said.

The single-vehicle crash took place on the Mamquam Forest Service Road, where the driver of the 2000 Honda CRV lost control and over-corrected on the corner, fishtailed and then rolled down an embankment, according to police.

Squamish Fire Rescue members freed the woman and child, police reported, and they were taken to Squamish General Hospital. Speed was not a factor in the collision, Squamish RCMP said.

No one was seriously injured in the crash, according to police.

Napping man arrested

A man who had outstanding warrants was arrested after being found laying on the side of Highway 99 northbound at Brohm Lake on Saturday, June 11, police said.

The man said he was walking from Squamish to Whistler to visit family and was temporarily laying down to relax, Squamish RCMP reported.

An officer gave him a ride, but police checks determined the man had outstanding warrants from Vancouver Island, according to police.  He was arrested, handcuffed, searched, transported to the Squamish Detachment and later taken to court to deal with the outstanding court issues, according to RCMP.

Thefts from trucks

Trucks were broken into in two separate incidents reported on Wednesday, June 8.

A black wallet was taken from a white, unlocked, GMC pickup truck parked overnight at the owner’s residence on Maple Crescent, police said.

In another incident, an extra set of keys and a red cooler were taken from a 2011 GMC Sierra parked at a business in the 40000 block of Government Road, police said. The owner told police the break-in happened between June 4 and June 8. The truck was likely unlocked as no damage was done, according to the report.

RCMP remind residents to lock vehicles to reduce opportunities for theft.

Suspects sought

Police say witnesses saw two men break the window of a white Ford F250 on the corner of Tantalus Place and Tantalus Road on Friday, June 10.

The suspects were described as slim and in their late teens. One was wearing a dark hoodie and the other a light brown hoodie and jeans, according to Squamish RCMP.

When the complainant yelled that the police were called, the suspects ran away and jumped into a dark-coloured Dodge Caliber, police said. The incident remains under investigation.

Bear attracts crowd

Squamish RCMP were called in on Monday, June 6 to disperse a crowd that had gathered to watch a black bear rummage through garbage on Third Avenue, police said. When police arrived, bystanders said the black bear ran off into the forest. The incident was reported to the conservation office, police said.

Bike stolen

A 2006 Giant Glory downhill bike was stolen from the front of a residence on Bayview Road in Lions Bay, police said. The owner told police the theft likely happened within the past two weeks. The bike was worth $800 to $1,000, according to police. The matter is under investigation.
