Here's this week's police briefs

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, police received a report of a pickup truck having been damaged while parked near a residence in the 38000 block of Eaglewind Blvd overnight. The driver’s side door lock was damaged in a failed attempt to gain entry.

Business Break and Enter

On Thursday, Oct. 9, police received a report of a business having been broken into overnight, sometime between 9:30 p.m. and 8 a.m., and an office rummaged through.

A rear door was found ajar by an employee in the morning. Cash and gift cards were stolen from the targeted office. No sign of forced entry was apparent. The police forensic identification services attended to examine the scene for evidence.

 Impaired Driving

Also on Thursday at about 4:15 p.m., a Squamish Traffic Services officer pulled over a vehicle for speeding along Loggers Lane. During the traffic stop, the officer noted an odour of marijuana. Further investigation located a quantity of methamphetamine in the 50-year-old Squamish woman’s possession. A driving suspension was issued to the driver, who is facing potential impaired driving and drug possession charges.

Theft from Vehicle

On Friday, Oct. 10, police receive a report of a suitcase having been stolen from the rear of a pickup truck overnight while parked in the 1200 block of Edgewater Drive. The silver suitcase contained a Spektrum remote radio control and four Lipo batteries. Nothing else was stolen, and no damage was done to the vehicle, as the case was unfortunately left unsecured in the rear bed of the truck.

 School Zones Safety

The Squamish RCMP are increasing patrols and enforcement in school zones, and at this stage the violation tickets being issued are limited. For that the police  thank the driving public for being responsible.

As well, officers are increasing their awareness and enforcement regarding cyclists. The police are reminding everyone to wear their helmets, and cycle with the safety and consideration of others as a priority. Share the roadways and trails, and be visible.

If anyone has any information relating to these or any other crimes, they are encouraged to contact the Squamish RCMP at (604) 892-6100 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
