Squamish man is facing two years probation and a suspended sentence after secretly videotaping a Squamish woman in a washroom.

Ian San Juan Concepcion pleaded guilty in North Vancouver provincial court on March 27 to unlawfully recording the woman undressing in a private washroom on June 2, 2016. According to the court documents, the camera was hidden behind a plant on a bathroom shelf and discovered by the woman after she had disrobed.

The images on the camera were not transmitted, the court documents state, and were seen only by the woman and police.

Concepcion was known to the woman.

To protect the victim and her family, The Chief is not publishing other identifying information including the location of the offence.

In the transcribed reasons for the sentence, Judge Joanne Challenger called Concepcion’s actions, “a serious violation of the expectation of privacy.”

“A strong message must be sent that such conduct is of high moral blameworthiness and will result in a criminal conviction being imposed,” she said.

Concepcion’s next court date is June 14 in North Vancouver provincial court
