It made for an unusual sight!

Squamish boater Al Price was shocked to see a BC Ferry docked at Darrell Bay on Friday morning.

He saw about a dozen crew members on the ferry taking measurements, he said.

The Darrell Bay, like Porteau Cove, is designated an emergency port, but nothing was amiss, according to BC Ferries.

The new ferry, the Salish Raven, was just undergoing a dock fit, according to Deborah Marshall, of BC Ferries.

"We were taking the opportunity to dock fit the ship so that we know she would fit in the case of an emergency," Marshall said.

The vessel arrived in June and began service for the Southern Gulf Islands in August.

It was one of three new ferries that were put into service this year, and like its sister-ferries, it is capable of running as dual-fuel on either natural gas or ultra-low sulphur diesel, Marshall said.
