UPDATE: 30-40 cm of snow expected for Squamish

Drivers are warned of "hazardous winter conditions" tomorrow

Between 30 and 40 centimetres of snow is expected to be dumped on Squamish by late tonight, according to Environment Canada. In addition, strong wind near 70 kilometres an hour is forecast to continue over southern sections of Howe Sound until early tomorrow morning.

A winter storm warning was issued for Squamish yesterday as snow is forecast to start falling this afternoon and become heavier in the evening and persist into the night.

While Squamish is expected to get 30 to 40 centimetres of snow, Whistler is likely to get even more at over 50 centimetres.

Environment Canada is warning drivers of “hazardous winter conditions” and to prepare for quickly deteriorating weather, especially along the highway. Blowing snow could suddenly reduce visibility completely so everyone is urged to postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve.

There is risk of freezing rain tonight south of Squamish before rain begins.
