Hello Squamish, how are you?

I’m Steven Chua, a journalist who’s been freelancing for a couple years, but ready to settle down with someone.

I first met you a few years back when I hiked the Chief a few times and if I’m not mistaken you were there, too.

What can I say? You’ve always been gorgeous, but aside from a little small talk I didn’t make any moves. Nerves, I guess. I’ve been kicking myself ever since.

Anyways, fast forward to a few months ago and here I was trying out this online dating thing – and getting grossed out most of the time – when I saw your profile picture appear on my phone.

Still gorgeous as ever. Age has probably only made you better.

You have so much going for you! I looked at your profile and saw a beautiful place. The mountains, the vibrant community, the love of the outdoors – all of this was a big turn-on.

So I “liked” you, though I didn’t think much would come of it.

But hey, I saw you “liked” me back!

I’ll admit this isn’t the first time I’ve used an online dating app. I’ve connected with a few other communities via CBC Radio One, The Canadian Press and The Globe and Mail.

But the communities I found there were always on-again, off-again. I’m tired of that. I want someone steady and serious. That’s why I tried out The Squamish Chief. It’s like the anti-Tinder of journalistic dating.

Since then, it seems like we’ve really hit it off, because ever since we started writing articles together, it’s been getting more and more fun.

We went from just seeing each other occasionally to meeting regularly, and over time you started to become the highlight of my schedule.

And now you’re asking me to move in with you!

I can’t turn this down! I’d love to get to know more about you. From your microbreweries to your civic and environmental issues, I want to understand every side of you.

I know this will be a serious step, and a scary one, too – we all know the chances of separation nowadays are that of a coin-toss.

I guess every commitment can be a long shot.

But you know what? You’ve got to start some relationships with a leap of faith.

I’m willing to take that jump!

Even if it’s a long shot.
