Squamish is so alive right now, I can feel it everywhere I go. I challenge you to have some fun while spreading the Squamish spirit. Say “hi!” to everyone you pass, whether you know them or not, and watch what happens.

So many changes. I’m so very sad to see Curves close its doors. Best of luck to Kathy. Mexican Minutes has moved, and is now open at its new location, next to Squamish Pawn Shop on Third Avenue.

Mish Mash is holding a registration/open house for the preschool Saturday (Aug. 23) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sea to Sky Ford has moved its sales department to its new location in the Squamish Business Park located at Queens Way and Industrial Way. They are under construction, but open for business. The service department is business as usual at the old location.

Wow! A huge welcome to three new businesses. Life’s Treasures, owned and operated by Tara Buschhaus, located on Third Avenue, next to Squamish Pawn Shop; Drs. Jason Q Lau and Amit Mathur of OmniEye & Vision, which is now open at 40388 Tantalus Road, next to Sushi Sen; and Mr. Tooth Dental House is also open (formerly Aarm Dental Squamish). Dr. Tariq Alsalous BDS, MSc (Orthodontics) is the new owner and orthodontist on site. Mr. Tooth Dental House offers full service family dentistry plus orthodontics. For the summer months, enjoy a free orthodontic consultation for all ages. For all of you who know and love Dr. Brigidear – don’t worry, she is still practicing with the new business.

Welcome to Squamish – all of you.

For everyone with a lonely pet at home, Lee Lee’s Grooming Lounge now offers doggie daycare. They have separate areas for large and small dogs; and  you may leave your dog all day or just half a day. Daycare and grooming combinations can be arranged as well.

On Friday (June 20), The Chopra Addiction & Treatment Center opened their hearts and their doors to welcome alumni, along with those of the local and global community who wished to join them to honour one of the great contributors and collaborators of our time. Together, among his colleagues, they  dedicated their main building as “David Simon House” in heartfelt tribute to Dr. David Simon’s legacy of healing and grace. Simon was a best-selling author, partner of Chopra and co-founder of Chopra Center for Wellbeing.

Simon was a pioneer in the field of mind-body medicine. The center provides a safe, therapeutic environment in which it is possible to achieve balance and the integration of body, mind and spirit. The private, residential wellness centre and staff are committed to providing the tools, training and compassionate expertise that is required for you to reclaim and sustain a meaningful life, free from the effects of trauma and compulsive, destructive behaviours.

The powerful recovery and wellness programs that combine the latest therapeutic techniques in modern Western medicine with the traditional healing arts of the East are based on the principles developed by Chopra and Simon in their popular book and curriculum workbook Freedom from Addiction.

Don’t forget to go downtown for Friday Nights from 5 to 8 p.m. when Cleveland Avenue will have food, music, family and friends. Local food stalls will be set up offering a wide selection of tasty treats. Buskers and street entertainers will be stationed throughout and family activities will be scattered along the street to engage the young and the young-at-heart.
