Join artist Janet Essevia as she takes a structured, step-by-step and hands on approach to teaching the shape, form and personality of West Coast Trees. This is a beginner to intermediate class and Janet will explain and demo, then watch and direct as the class applies the technique. Notes are provided at the end of each class so that you can take home your finished work as well as a reminder of your lesson.

The AWARE Kid's Nature Club is a FREE workshop that focuses on a different environmental topic each month. These fun and activity based sessions are intended for kids aged 5-12 and all kids must be accompanied by an adult.
The Britannia Mine Museum is hosting its first annual amateur photography competition.
There are lots of great prizes and the photos will be on display at the Museum in the fall. This is for amateur photographers of all ages and abilities, so get out there this summer and start shooting.
THE CATEGORIES
Each category has two age groups; 15 & under, and 16 & over.
Use of Mined Materials
Show us how people in the Sea-to-Sky use stuff we get from mines. Think of anything - metal, glass, stone, clay… bikes, binoculars, mirrors and mack trucks.
Rocks and Landscapes
Rocks, minerals, volcanoes, cliffs, mountains, valleys… we are surrounded by some astounding rocks and rocky landscapes. Show us how they look to you.
Human-Environment Interaction
We have an impact on our environment and it has an impact on us. We want to see the effects of one on the other; a whiskey jack feeding from a hand, land being cleared or planted, sand between toes of a bare foot.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Email the photo (1MB or smaller) to: skerr@bcmm.ca
Or drop off a photo to the Britannia Mine Museum.
Be sure to include: your name and contact information, the age group and subject category you are submitting it to, a title or caption if you would like. Maximum 2 submissions per category per person. Photos must be taken in 2012. The Museum reserves the right to exclude any photos deemed inappropriate or otherwise unacceptable. Winners will be chosen at the sole discretion of a panel of judges appointed by the Museum.
If your photo is selected for the exhibition you may be contacted for a higher resolution file or print.
Submissions will be accepted until September 7th.
