Quest wins bronze

The Quest Kermodes have won bronze in the PACWEST men’s soccer tournament to close out their season.

They had come in fourth-seeded and lost to eventual champs Capilano on Friday by a score of 5-2, with forward Jeremy Monn scoring a pair.

In Saturday’s bronze game, Quest took on the second-seeded VIU Mariners in a game that had to be settled on penalty kicks. On kicks, VIU got the early edge, hitting their first three shots, while Quest hit two of the first three. The Mariners added two more. When VIU missed on their sixth attempt, it opened the door for Quest, who knotted things up at five.

On the next sequence, VIU again could not beat MacDonald, but Benedikt Dressen ended the game with a goal to give Quest the win 6-5 on penalty kicks.

Quest keeper Sam MacDonald earned player of the game honours for his performance in goal.

The bronze is just the second time the men’s team has won a medal and the first time since 2012.

Kermodes’ hoops

Quest’s basketball teams opened the season splitting their road games against Langara on Friday.

The women’s team ended up defeating the host Falcons 65-57, led by last year’s rookie of the year Jordin Wilkinson with 21 points. She finished nine for 14 from the floor. Olivia Mjaaland scored 11 points while Emily Lachenmayer added 10 points.

In their first game under coach Alex Van Samang, the men fell short, losing 94-83 to Langara. All-star Dallas Searles led the way with 24 points, while Noah de Rappard-Yuswack added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Quest hits the road again with games against CBC Thursday night.
