Quest University will be hosting a game from a new minor basketball league on Feb. 11.

The Minor League Basketball Association, also known as the MLBA, will be showcasing two teams from its northwest conference during the match.

This league includes teams from across North America, such as Austin, Memphis, Tacoma and Atlanta, to name a few examples.

The Vancouver Dragons will be taking on the Quad City Flames this weekend. “The league wants us to bring the Dragons and the Quad City Flames just to showcase what the fans have to look forward to this year,” said Tajinder Dhinsa, chairman of the northwest conference.

This game will be a showcase that will serve as something of a preview into what the new league will be displaying, talent-wise.

As this is the MLBA’s first season in operation, its players will likely be eager to demonstrate their skills.

Also, it’s expected that Squamish will serve as home court to a team in the league.

Dhinsa said that the B.C. Grizzlies will be stationed at Quest University.

The Grizzlies won’t be playing during the Feb. 11 showcase since there are a few more things that have to be handled logistically, but he expects that the players will be on track to hit the courts for the regular season, which starts April 1.

“Our guys that are in the league, all these guys have played NCAA division-1, the top level of CIS [now known as U Sports] or CCAJ or CAA basketball,” said Dhinsa. “We’re considered AA.”

He said the Feb. 11 match is sure to make for a good game.

“With the Dragons, you’re probably looking at the team that will probably be winning the championship this year at MLBA,” said Dhinsa, who also is part of the Dragons’ management team.

“They’ve really stacked the team with some really good talent... I think the guy everyone should look out for should be D’Juan Miller,” he continued. “He’s basically the Nate Robinson of the MLBA.”
