Local rider Rhys Verner pedalled his way to victory at the Enduro World Series in Finale Ligure, Italy.

Verner made it to gold with a standout performance at final round of the competition in the under-21 category.

“Things really clicked and I’m just ecstatic to have been able to pull this off,” wrote Verner in an Instagram post. “Great way to end the season.”

After the first day of racing, Verner was in first place with a 36 second lead and managed to build on his lead the second day with three of four stage wins finishing 1:14 ahead of the closest competitor.

With his times, Verner, who races for Kona Bikes, would have placed 13th in the Pro Men division.

Verner used to ride with Team Squamish, a local mountain biking club that has produced high-profile riders such as world champion Miranda Miller and international bronze medallist Holden Jones.
