To begin with, I would like to extend my most sincere gratitude to our community for all the previous support and over 1200 votes I received in the last election! After much encouragement and continued support from the community, I am energized to throw my hat into the ring again. Throughout my candidacy in this upcoming election, I look forward to listening to the people, remaining transparent throughout the process, and gaining feedback along the way to hopefully earn your continued respect and privilege to serve our community and it’s people. I bring passion, forthright honesty and integrity. My council bid comes from a desire to give back to a community I have come to love, to be responsible to those who have honored me with their confidence and votes, to provide high caliber leadership, to assist and be part of a team in planning for the future and to make Squamish a safe, healthy and prosperous place for families and residents.
Born in North Vancouver, 57 year old Peter Kent is a former 15 year personal stunt double to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hollywood Stuntman’s Hall of Fame inductee and Gemini Award winning producer. Married to his wife Marcia, a local nurse at Squamish Hospital and father to 5 year old twin boys Ryder and Hunter, Peter is proud to call Squamish his home for the past 9 years.
Peter is a “Jack of all trades”, besides being a 30 year TV/Film veteran, he has worked in mills, paving, landscaping, commercial fishing and as a sound engineer. He owns and operates the only stunt training academy in Canada, called “Peter Kent’s School of Hard Knocks” teaching film studies, stunts, and directorial techniques to the next generation of film makers and high school children. Past education includes British Columbia School of Broadcasting, he is a Shakespearan trained actor, studied and coached by the late Zina Provendi (acting coach to legends such as Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean). In 2008 Peter placed in the Top Ten Movie Stunts of All Time by CNN and also voted “Best Actor” in The Chief Readers Choice Awards. Amongst Peter’s accomplishments, his most cherished is his family. When he’s not teaching or performing stunts, you can find him biking the trails, hitting the gym, dropping his kids off at school or cheering them on from the sidelines at soccer!
His humble desire to give to his community through volunteering in various programs such as his own charity A.R.K. (Actors Reading for Kids), inspiring future generations by being a “Big Brother” in the Big Brothers/Sisters of Canada program, performing plays for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, honored him a two time nomination for the prestigious BC Community Achievement Award.
