For those of you itching to get to the ballot box, good news — advance voting starts this week on Thursday, Oct. 15.

It will run until Oct. 21.

In a news release, Elections BC said that the advance voting period is seven days this election, up from six in the last provincial election in 2017.

The pandemic has made this election season unlike any other, and, as a result, authorities have made efforts to implement COVID-19 protocols.

An extra day has been added to give voters more opportunities to vote, and to help reduce numbers in voting places as a pandemic response measure, Elections BC said. Voters should note that some voting places won’t be open on every advance voting day. Advance voting places will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time on the days they are open.

Protective measures will be implemented at voting sites, including physical distancing, voting place capacity limits, personal protective equipment for staff, protective barriers, hand sanitizer, and frequent cleaning.

The 55 Activity Centre and the Sea to Sky Hotel will have advance voting Oct. 15 to 21.

Elections BC has received an unprecedented number of vote-by-mail package requests for this election. As of October 13, 680,000 voters have requested vote-by-mail packages. In the 2017 provincial election, 6,517 voters voted by mail.
