West Shore music fans will be back in the concert business this summer, as the inaugural Crown of Sound festival is set for Westhills Stadium on June 13.

The one-day event, a co-production of Victoria’s KeyCorp Sports & Entertainment, the City of Langford and Kelowna’s Thick as Thieves Entertainment, will feature sets from Bishop Briggs, Allan Rayman, Jesse Roper and Carmanah. More local artists will be announced in the coming weeks, according to organizers.

Crown of Sound is expected to attract upwards of 5,000 people to the popular Langford sports venue. It will be the first festival of its size in the area since Colwood’s Rock the Shores was discontinued in 2018.

“We are always looking for ways to support arts and culture in Langford, to enhance the vibrancy of our community and to allow people to connect over a common interest,” Langford Mayor Stew Young said in a statement. “It has been a pleasure working with the KeyCorp group and we are excited to see the community embrace this event.”

Thick as Thieves Entertainment currently produces several annual events in Kelowna, including the AltiTunes Music Festival and Denim in the Diamond. Mitch Carefoot, one of the company’s directors, is hoping his one-day event engages music fans in the area, who are often underserved when it comes to concerts.

“We made it a one-day show so people wouldn’t have to commit all their time,’ Carefoot told the Times Colonist. “We’re bringing in good music and letting people have fun for a couple of hours on a [soccer] pitch.”

A limited number of tickets are on sale now for $39 through crownofsound.ca. Prices will increase in the coming days and weeks to $49, $59 and $69.
