Britannia Beach and Furry Creek get curbside organic pickup

New collection will begin in June
Britannia Beach

New bear-proof bins will soon appear on curbs in Britannia Beach and Furry Creek, as the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District adds organics pickup to the communities’ services.

“This program, which brings curbside organics collection to residents in Britannia Beach and Furry Creek, will make it easier than ever to ensure that residents are taking the necessary steps to properly manage the collection and storage of organic waste,” SLRD board chair and electoral Area D director, Tony Rainbow, said in a press release.

The complimentary totes will be delivered to residents on June 5, but the first collection has not been confirmed.

The SLRD already picks up garbage and recycling in Britannia Beach and Furry Creek, and is now adding organics to help manage wildlife attractants and mitigate interactions with humans.

A community information session about the new service will be at the Britannia Mine Museum multipurpose room on Wed. May 29 at 7 p.m.
