Squamish Community Policing Station closes doors

Cleveland Ave location to be repurposed by District
RCMP Office
The former Community Policing Station office on Cleveland Ave.

This month, the Squamish RCMP Community Policing Station closed its doors for good.

The downtown office on Cleveland Avenue will now see its programs managed at the main RCMP detachment. Information and education about drug and alcohol awareness, seniors' safety, child and internet safety and domestic violence can be found at 1000 Finch Drive along with programs such as Block Watch.

"The move allows for better integration of the community police programs into the Squamish Outreach and Investigative Team, and streamlines staff and volunteer resources allowing them connection to the larger detachment base including the uniformed officers," Sgt. Sascha Banks said in a press release.

The downtown office space will be used by the District of Squamish for the Economic Development and Arts & Culture departments as a satellite office.

The downtown Squamish Community Policing Station originally opened in 2005. It was closed in November 2010 for upgrades and reopened in 2012.

It has been a volunteer-driven facility.
