Like most other events in town, the annual Dr. Kindree Memorial Golf Tournament has been cancelled for this year due to the pandemic.

The Squamish Hospital Foundation announced the cancellation of the fundraiser on Aug. 18.

The foundation's mandate is to raise funds to enhance the quality of health care services in the community.

"For over 20 years, the tournament honouring Dr. Kindree has raised close to a $1 million of crucial funds for the betterment of health care in the corridor. Last year, alone $60,000 of funds raised by the golf tournament went to the purchase of a transportation van for Hilltop House residents, and, the year before, $80,000 was raised for needed ultrasound technology at Squamish General Hospital," the news release stated.

"The funds that were to be raised this year will be missed."

But all is not lost.

The foundation is going ahead with one of the highlights of the annual event,  the Helicopter Golf Ball Drop, where more than 1,000 golf balls are dropped from a helicopter and the balls that are either a hole in one or closest to the pin win $10,000 in prizes.

A chopper from Blackcomb Helicopters will hover over the Squamish Valley Golf Course on Monday, Sept. 21.

The event will be live-streamed.
