In memoriam: Sandra Louise Cameron Wilson Donnelly

August 28, 1940 - May 24, 2022
Donnelly

Sandra passed away peacefully on May 24 with her loved ones at her side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She is survived by her devoted husband James Michael, children David and Sara, brother Keith Wilson, extended family and beloved puppy Lucy.

Sandra spent her early years in the Yukon, and her love of the north never left her. She and Jim met as students in a car pool from West Vancouver to UBC. It was love at first sight, and they were together for 59 years.

During the early years of their marriage, the couple had adventures commercial fishing on the west coast and in Hecate Straits. After completing her degree in special education, she taught in West Vancouver, Sechelt, Port Alberni and Powell River. A respected and much-loved educator, she worked tirelessly to help her students achieve their potential. She volunteered extensively - as a tutor for new Canadians, a founding member of Powell River Transition House, Powell River Academy of Music, Kathaumixw festival and the local music festival, which she helped organize for years.

She and Jim were world travellers in their retirement and spent many happy times with friends and family on their boat, Fan Isle.

The family wishes to thank all those that have offered friendship, kindness and support during her illness. Thank you to Doctors R. Hsiung, Awopetu and the staff at Evergreen Extended Care, who were so loving with Sandra in her final journey.

Sandra, Mom, you are always with us. We will love you forever.

A celebration of Sandra’s life will take place on August 20 at 1 pm at St. David and St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Townsite.
