Until further notice, the last day that donations can be dropped off at Ladner Baptist Church is Friday, July 9.

Over the course of two days, residents from Delta and surrounding communities nearly filled an entire 53-foot container on Saturday with donations to be sent to Lytton evacuees.

Keeping current need in mind, organizer Kathy Mawhorter says this week, they will only be accepting emergency supplies, including first-aid kits and other medical supplies, non-perishable food, gift cards for local stores, and water and Gatorade.

“We’re trying to be sensitive to only acquiring what is really needed right now … And the people of Ladner have been most generous, as they usually are in a situation like this,” she says.

This week’s donation drop-off hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the last day being on Friday, July 9, until further notice, as many donations have already been sent up and the evacuees are still waiting to be relocated.

Mawhorter thanks the magic of social media in being able to get so much support for the Lytton community, and humbly says that she was just the one who made the Facebook posts.

“If everybody just does their own little bit, it ends up being a lot,” she says.
