It’s now mandatory for all individuals to wear masks at the Richmond Recycling Depot.

The City of Richmond required the wearing of masks in all indoor City-operated facilities since Nov.1, 2020. The new mask-wearing requirement at the outdoor Richmond Recycling Depot offers an additional measure of safety to enhance and protect the well-being of the community, according to the City of Richmond’s website.

The website also warns that face shields aren’t substitutes for masks and each individual’s face mask must cover the nose, mouth and chin without gapping.

The city’s face mask wearing policy does not apply to children five years old and younger or if the individual has any of the following conditions:

- A sensory disability

- A cognitive disability

- A physical disability

- A chronic health condition that is respiratory in nature

- A hearing impairment

- Inability to place or remove a face mask without assistance.

Those who aren’t able to wear masks for any of the above medical reasons are required to maintain a safe distance from others to protect themselves and those around them.
