It is a little bit like the chocolate and peanut butter combination.

It is hard to imagine concert piano playing and comedy working together, until they do.

Concert pianist and entertainer Sarah Hagen, who has twice before performed in Squamish,

is bringing her one-woman show, Perk up, pianist! to St. John the Divine Anglican Church on Friday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m.

The event is presented by the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association.

Best known for her classical music chops, Hagen combines her renowned playing with acting in

in the show, which tells the story of a touring classical musician remaining optimistic in the midst of challenging and ridiculous situations, according to a news release from the association.

Perk up, pianist! is created, written and performed by Hagen and includes original compositions.

“My story is one of navigating a three-decade-long midlife crisis, which began the moment I started playing the piano,” Hagen quips in the performance, noting she started playing at seven-years-old.

Hagen has garnered favourable reviews for this show, including when she performed it at the Toronto Fringe Festival in 2016.

She was the Ontario Contact's 2017 Artist of the Year award winner.

As a pianist, Hagen has performed in concert halls — including at New York City's Carnegie Hall in May 2013 — and has been heard on broadcasts throughout North America and Europe.

Tickets to the Squamish show can be purchased online at howesoundarts.ca, at XOCO on Cleveland Avenue, or at the door.a
