Valdy plays the BAG

Renowned 1970s musician Valdy will be playing the Brackendale Art Gallery on Jan. 19. He’ll be sharing the stage with the Valdy Eagle Band.

You can catch him — and dinner — at 7 p.m. at the BAG. The show’s at 8 p.m. if you only want to stick around for the tunes.

 

Quest Lecture: Music and mountain biking

Quest professor Jeff Warren explores the possible links between music and mountain biking in a lecture at the Squamish Public Library. Jan. 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

 

A Community Celebration of Music, Art and Nature

Artist Zoe Evamy will demonstrate her watercolour experience and technique. Photographer Tim Cyr will display and discuss his approach to nature photograpty. Wildlife expert Meg Toom will talk about her experience working with WildSafe BC, among other things.

Musicians and Howe Sound Brewing will be on hand as well.

At the BAG on Jan. 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.

 

Avalanche Awareness Days

BC Park Rangers will be hosting avalanche awareness days at the Red Heather Warming Hut in Garibaldi Provincial Park on Jan. 19 to 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Take a hike!

Squamish has some of the most prolific hiking and walking groups that you can find in any community.

With several clubs dedicated to trekking through the outdoors, you’ll find plenty to do if getting around on two feet is your preferred method of transportation.

- Over the Hill Hikers meet this week on Jan. 22 for a walk at the Smoke Bluffs. Meet at Loggers Lane climber’s parking at 9 a.m. Details at 604-815-8561.

- The Tantalus Walking Group will hike this week at Brackendale Dike. Meet at Fisherman’s Park at end of Judd Road on Jan. 22.

The group will also take a walk at Cheekye Fan. Meet at the corner of Government Road and Ross Road on Jan. 24. Details at 604-898-5594. Ask for Joyce. All walks start at 10 a.m.

- Senior Walking Group meets Jan. 25 at the Tim Horton’s.
