Art Beat: Reflect with a wondering mystic at the library this weekend

The Sechelt Library is hosting a live book reading by author Nadia G. Serry. Serry is a clinical counsellor, career and diversity advisor, certified educator, and spiritual development coach. 

She will be reading from her latest release: Book Two of Reflections of a Wondering Mystic: Contemplations into Awareness. 

The event is open to the public and takes place May 28 at 1 p.m.

What fools these mortals be 

Have you always wanted to be a character from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream? The Gibsons Public Library has issued a call for community readers to participate in a live reading of an abridged script of the 425-year-old play. Everyone will be “on book” reading from the script—no memorization required. 

Rehearsals will be on June 18 and 25. The live performance will take place on Sunday, June 26, in the bandshell tent in Winegarden Park. 

Ages eight through 108 are welcome! Interested readers should call or email Lise Krepps at the Gibsons Public Library: [email protected]. Indicate if you prefer a particular character and reply by June 7.  

Fibre Works exhibition 

Fibre Works Studio and Gallery is celebrating sylvan spirituality with an exhibition of works by Barbara DeMott, Randi Gurholt-Seary and Pia Sillem through June 18. 

The three artists who explore different mediums have joined together to present images and objects that celebrate how the forest is woven into our lives. 

The “Spirit of the Forest” show explores inspiration, emotions and intense gratitude for the beauty, tangible gifts and spiritual sustenance the forest provides.  

Fibre Works is located in Madeira Park and is open Thursday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information is available at fibreworksgallery.com. 

Michelle Morand at Gibsons Public Market 

Michelle Morand’s original music has been described as “melodic, moving, and thought provoking.”  

On May 28 at the Gibsons Public Market, she will share a curated selection of stories and familiar songs woven together into a performance that takes listeners on a journey of sight, sound, emotion and personal exploration. 

The free, public performance begins in the Public Market’s atrium at 2:30 p.m. 

Gibsons and District Public Library seeking artists 

The Gibsons and District Public Library is seeking visual artists (photography, painting, drawing, textile, etc.) who would like to display smaller artworks for one calendar month in the display areas near the checkout desk.  

Currently the library is seeking artists for the month of May 2022 and each month beyond.

A Cappella Strait chorale and Choralations Children’s Choir at St. Hilda's and St. Bart's

The A Cappella Strait chorale and Choralations Children’s Choir, under the direction of Janice Brunson, will present a “mysterious mix” of songs in a variety of styles during a choral music concert scheduled for June 3 and June 4 at St. Hilda’s Anglican Church (Sechelt) and St. Bartholomew’s Angelican Church (Gibsons) respectively. Both performances begin at 7 p.m. 

Tickets (adults $15, children under 12 free) can be purchased in advance at Strait Music in Sechelt or by e-transfer by emailing [email protected]. Vaccination passports and masks are requested.
