Richmond RCMP, with help from Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives, presented a new bike to Mashrural, 12. His bike was destroyed last month when he was hit by a vehicle at Westminster Highway and Cooney Road.

A young cyclist has been given a new bicycle to replace the one destroyed in a hit-and-run last month.

Richmond RCMP investigators, with help from Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives, presented the new bike to Mashrural, 12, on March 25.

“The investigators reported that Mashrural was ‘blown away’ in astonishment,” RCMP said in a statement. “He and his family expressed a humble and heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the generous donors.”

On March 7, Mashrural was knocked off his bike by white SUV in the intersection of Westminster Highway and Cooney Road, around 12:30 p.m.

At scene, Mounties learned he had bought his bike – destroyed in the collision – the day before, having saved up money for some time, RCMP said in a statement on Friday.

“We can’t thank (RCRG) enough for making this kind donation possible,” said Richmond RCMP’s Cpl. Ian Henderson.

RCRG president and CEO, Ed Gavsie, said the non-profit was “so pleased to be able to support our community partners at Richmond RCMP in bringing joy to this otherwise unfortunate event.”

Mounties are still looking for the driver of the white SUV.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has dash-cam video, is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212, quoting file number 21-6168.. To remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
