70-year-old Burnaby man charged in serious pedestrian hit-and-run

'The victim is still recovering.' Lyle Murray Fraser has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident that critically injured a 68-year-old man four years ago.

Nearly four years after a 68-year-old pedestrian was critically injured in a Burnaby hit-and-run, a 70-year-old man has been charged in the crash.

Burnaby RCMP were called to the 7400 block of Gilley Avenue at about 8:55 p.m. on March 4, 2018 for reports a pedestrian had been hit, according to a police report at the time.

Police said the car continued southbound on Gilley without stopping after it struck the man.

After a lengthy investigation by Burnaby RCMP’s criminal collision investigation team, charges were approved against Burnaby resident Lyle Murray Fraser on Feb. 25.

Fraser was arrested on Tuesday and has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily harm.

He has since been released on bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 22 in Vancouver provincial court.

Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj said the 68-year-old victim of the hit-and-run will “never be 100% again.”

“Four years after this incident, the victim is still recovering from their injuries,” Kalanj said in a news release. “We are pleased that this file is now before the courts.”
