The intersection of Alderson Avenue and Blue Mountain Street was shut down for several hours on Friday, March 18, 2022.

Impaired driving is suspected in a hit and run collision that left one person in critical condition and shut down a Coquitlam street last Friday night (March 18).

Today (March 21), Coquitlam RCMP say they have made an arrest in connection with the incident, which took place about about 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of Alderson Avenue and Blue Mountain Street.

All four streets were closed at the intersection to allow police to conduct an investigation.

Police say one person remains in critical condition in hospital.

No further information is being released at this time; however, Mounties say "impairment may be a contributing factor" in the collision.

"The RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) have been mobilized to investigate this collision," spokesperson Cst. Deanna Law said in a statement to the Tri-City News.
