Burnaby Speed Skating Interclub meet returns after two year hiatus

A total of 125 skaters participated in the event.

After being required to take a two-year break due to COVID-19, the Burnaby Speed Skating interclub meet returned on Jan. 7.

Organizers say 125 skaters participated in the meet, with 34 being from Burnaby. 

Six skaters set personal bests in all four of their races, including Evan Yang, Deryk Fong, Rodin Hasani, April Bain,  Connor Tom and Grace Nitchka. 

Nitchka won all four of her races while Evan Yang and Luke Li won three each. 

Six club records were broken at the meet including two by Adam Gyori (M12 800 metre and 1,000 metre), Eliana Leon (F12 1,000 metre) and Sophia Cairo Martinez (F13 1,000 metre), Adam Yang (M11 1,000 metre) and Karen Doolan (F65 1,500 metre). 

A total of 66 personal bests were recorded among Burnaby skaters.
