Letter: Port Coquitlam man thankful new rinks can fulfill granddaughter's hockey aspirations

A new season on the ice for young budding athletes — and their families.

The Editor:

Here I am, sitting in the new PoCo Arena, watching 32 young kids learning how to become a hockey players (U9).

Some of these kids already have great wheels, others are encouraged by the team coaches, Josh, Gabe, Scott and Doug to name a few (all volunteers, giving up their time for their kids, and others more than twice a week) to help make these young players a team: The Poco Pirates!

Gotta say, the new arenas are nice, well-lit, warmer (sometimes) and definitely full of life.

What makes this team unique is amongst the young skaters there is a stand out, Rylee... the one girl on the team.

The coaches and players have all watched her excel over the season. She's a true die hard never stop go-getter and I think the whole team is pretty proud of her.

It's been great to hear coaches comment to her, actually coaching her, and other team parents applauding her as often as me, her Grandpa.

Thanks to all the coaches, the city, parents and certainly the kids for helping one girl realize a goal.
