Police in Surrey, B.C. have issued a public warning about men being targeted for robberies after using escort service websites

A series of robberies through escort service sites has promoted a warning to the public from the Surrey RCMP.

Men arranged to meet escorts through online sites and agreed to meet at a "prearranged location" for a sexual encounter before they were robbed, explains a news release.

The Surrey RCMP underscores that meetings with unknown individuals that take place "behind closed doors" have an inherent risk for all parties involved.

If you choose to meet up with someone who is unknown to you, it is recommended to take precautions, including:

  • Do not use drugs or alcohol that can impair your ability to keep yourself safe;
  • Do not consume anything provided to you by the other person;
  • Do not have valuables easily accessible;
  • Use a buddy system so that someone knows where you are and can contact police should you not check in with them.

The Surrey RCMP believes other victims may not have come forward to police. They are encouraged to contact police at 604-599-0502.
