New Westminster Police recently arrested a local man in connection to a break and enter at a Sapperton restaurant.

A New West resident faces a number of charges after a recent break-in at a local restaurant.

The New Westminster Police Department responded to a call about a break and enter at a Sapperton restaurant about 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24.

“Allegedly, during the early morning hours a man had broken into the restaurant and stole the cash drawer of the register, which contained hundreds of dollars,” said a NWPD press release. “Evidence gathered at the scene, in addition to other investigative techniques, led officers to a suspect who resided in New Westminster.”

Police arrested a suspect and submitted a report to Crown counsel recommending one charge of break and enter.

“There was excellent work done by both front line officers and detectives in this investigation,” police spokesperson Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said in the media release. “We value our relationships with local businesses and are here to follow up on all crimes reported to us and work with businesses on crime-prevention strategies.”

The New Westminster Police Department reminds community members that resources for businesses are available at www.nwpolice.org. Businesses are also invited to contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 604-529-2528 to discuss how to keep their business safe.
