Rescue crews saved a freezing cold swimmer from Lynn Canyon’s 30 Foot Pool Tuesday afternoon.

Multiple 911 calls came in around 3:20 p.m. reporting a young man stranded on a rock in Lynn Creek. District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services responded expecting to put their swift water rescue team into action.

“When they got to the river's edge, they were able to see he was actually swimming, and he was coaxed to come to the shore,” said assistant chief David Dales. “The water rescue just turned into medical aide on the side of the creek for a very severely hypothermic patient.”

Firefighters helped to rewarm the young person and handed him off to B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics.

Dales said the patient was dressed for swimming but couldn’t say how it was he got into trouble or why he chose to go into 30 Foot Pool at this time of year.

“It's high. It's very cold. It's not a recommended swimming spot right now,” he said.
