*This story has been updated with new information.

Homicide investigators were called to a residential area in South Burnaby last night after what police believe was a targeted shooting that killed a 32-year-old man.

Police were called to the 6500 block of Portland Street at about 8 p.m. for reports of shots fired, according to Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Brett Cunningham.

He said officers at the scene found a Burnaby man in a vehicle who had been shot to death. Police say the victim is Chris Kenworthy.

"Based on the investigation to date, police do not consider this to be a random act, and it is not believed that there is any danger to the public at this time," stated a Burnaby RCMP news release Thursday morning.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has now taken over the file.

IHIT and Burnaby RCMP will hold a joint press conference at 3:30 p.m. today to share further details.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. To remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
