A Richmond head greenkeeper has been selected as the British Columbia Golf Superintendents Association’s (BCGSA) recipient of the 2020 “Superintendent of the Year” award.

Rick Scott, greens superintendent at Richmond Golf and Country Club, was presented the award at a virtual meeting of the BCGSA.

According to the BCGSA, Scott has “always displayed the utmost professionalism, has an ability to get the most out of his crew, always stays on top of new management techniques and, most importantly, Rick has an incredible balance of family/work life.”

They added that Scott is a “very compassionate and caring person” and has “been able to offer a safe and stable work-place environment for his son, Matt, for the past 10 seasons amidst challenges of special needs.”

Scott has implemented many changes at his club over his years, most notably a complete irrigation upgrade, leading to his course always being in great shape.

Additionally, he “has taught and nurtured many young turfgrass industry professionals through their careers as they moved on to superintendents and assistants at other clubs.

“Rick was, and has always been, an inspiration to his peers in the industry which has gained him the utmost admiration and respect from both his contemporaries and peers alike.

“This is true, not only in the golf industry, but also in the turfgrass industry at large.”
