Two Vancouver security guards and a bystander allegedly got a faceful of bear spray at a downtown liquor store.

Earlier this week two Vancouver security guards and a bystander allegedly got a faceful of bear spray from a not so subtle thief.

According to a release from Vancouver Crime Stories the incident took place at a downtown liquor store. The guards were allegedly bear sprayed once while trying to apprehend a man stealing from the store and a second time when the guards followed the man out of the store. During the second spray a bystander was also hit.

Officers from the Vancouver Police Department arrived and arrested the man after a brief struggle. The bear spray was seized and the man was taken to jail.

Police are recommending charges for robbery and assault with a weapon.
