Brennan Park Rec Centre to temporarily close

Electrical upgrades close facilities from June 24 to 27
Brennan Park

The Brennan Park Recreation Centre will be partially closed for several days as it undergoes electrical upgrades.

On June 24 and 25, the arena will be closed, but the pool and front office will be open. On June 26 and 27, the whole facility, including the campground, will be closed. A press release from the District of Squamish says the rec centre is anticipated to reopen on June 28.

In 2018, the District asked residents whether Brennan Park Recreation Centre should be replaced or renovated and expanded. Of the people who responded, 81 per cent were in favour of upgrading the existing centre.

"Investing in our current infrastructure is a key priority of Council as we anticipate the future needs of our growing community," District of Squamish Mayor Karen Elliott said in the press release. "These upgrades will ensure Brennan Park Recreation Centre operates as efficiently as possible and will extend its service life as future expansion is planned for."

The upgrades include replacing original switchgear, a backup generator, as well as installing a pad-mount transformer. The replacements are intended to help in emergencies, while the new transformer would help provide enough power for future expansion.
