The District is upping its fees for sewage tipping and bulk potable water, a move which may hit the pocketbooks of any major community events held here in town.
“The Public Works Department has identified that current rates charged for these services are not sustainable,” reads a staff report.
“Ultimately, the cost of providing these services to individuals, corporations and not-for-profit organizations is currently subsidized through the District’s utility operating budgets.”
Previously, the bulk potable water rate was $0.54 per cubic metre.
The bylaw amendment bumped it up to $39.14.
The bulk non-potable water rate was also adjusted to $14.04 per cubic metre. Before, it was $30 per truck.
Regarding sewage, the bylaw amendment increased the rate to $16.11 per cubic metre for septic tank and all other sewage effluent sources.
Previously, it was $10.67 per cubic metre for “residential, commercial and industrial septic tank effluent” and $11.77 per cubic metre for all other sources of sewage effluent.
