The bylaw governing the movement and management of soils has been updated with a new fee structure and an expanded application, among other things.

District council voted unanimously in favour of updating the bylaw with staff’s proposed changes on Sept. 17.

One of the highlights is a new rate structure that will reduce the flat permit fee from $250 to $150, while applying a new fee of $0.35 per cubic metre of soil displaced.

People won’t be charged if they move less than 30 cubic metres — about three truck loads — on one property within a year.

There will also be some new applications of the bylaw.

These include dust abatement, management of dirt and debris, erosion and sediment control measures, site grading and drainage, slope of stockpiles, cover for exposed surfaces, site inspection requirements, and stronger enforcement capabilities.
