A new four-storey development will bring more light industrial and residential space to Squamish.

A development permit has been issued to Thoth Ventures Ltd. to build the facility on 1111 Pioneer Way.

It'll bring 18 purpose-built market rental units and 42 for-sale units to town, according to a staff report.

About three-quarters of the units are one-bedrooms, 18 per cent are two-bedroom and three per cent are three-bedroom.

The size of residential units will range from 620 square feet to about 1,100.

About 39,000 square feet of light-industrial floor area is proposed, which can be divided into a maximum of 28 units.

All councillors voted in favour, save for Coun. Jenna Stoner, who said she believed it didn't support guidelines that ask developers to avoid monotonous landscape.

"The degree of grey scale" doesn't fall in line with what she sees with other proposed projects in the same type of zoning, she said.
