District expects spending increase for wastewater treatment, Under One Roof

The municipality is asking for public feedback before changes to financial plan adopted

The District of Squamish has tweaked its 2018 to 2022 financial plan to increase money going into waste water treatment plant emergency repairs and the Under One Roof development.

There are three changes to spending, according to The District.

The first change is to a $200,000 request to fund emergency repairs to the Wastewater treatment plant. However, the costs have since added up to $298,000. Sewer reserve funds will be used.

Secondly, thanks to an unexpected $195,000 grant, the Buckley Avenue affordable housing project won’t cost the District as much as previously expected. The District is recommending using this extra cash for the third change.

The final change is putting an extra $410,000 towards the storm works and site preparation of the Helping Hands Under One Roof social housing project.

These amendments have yet to be approved by council, which will be reviewing these changes on Oct. 16.
