Open fires permitted in Sea to Sky area

Applies only to land under provincial jurisdiction
1

Well, wildfire season is definitely over.

Province has announced that as of noon, open burning is once again permitted in the Sea to Sky area, including the areas surrounding Squamish.

All open fires will be permitted, along with the use of tiki torches, burn barrels, fireworks, sky lanterns and binary exploding targets.

This only applies to land under provincial jurisdiction, so check with the District of Squamish first if you want to set things on fire within municipal boundaries.

Anyone lighting a larger Category 3 fire must first obtain a burn registration number by calling 1 888 797-1717.

More information on the types of fires can be found here: http://ow.ly/jdO5301kS32.

A Category 3 fire is a fire that burns material more than two metres high or three metres wide, or stubble or grass over more than 2,000 square metres, or more than two piles of any size.
