Hit-and-runs involving cyclists

On two separate occasions, vehicles struck cyclists and drove away.

Police allege the first case happened on Nov. 19 when a blue BMW with a male South Asian driver hit a cyclist and drove away.

The cyclist was riding at around 7:30 p.m. on Mamquam Road near Highway 99.

For the second incident, officers say a black SUV pulled out of The Shady Tree and hit a woman riding her bike on Government Road.

The collision happened at 11 a.m. on Nov. 22.

Two hit-and-runs

There were two separate cases of hit-and-runs on Nov. 21, Squamish RCMP say.

The first case happened at the Walmart parking lot off Discovery Way, while the second occurred at Hilltop House in Valleycliffe.

Police say on both occasions, the drivers failed to provide information on the vehicles they hit, nor did they report it to officers.

Drivers who do this can be ticketed for multiple offences, including failure to remain at scene of an accident, which carries a fine of $368 under the Motor Vehicle Act.
