Explosive gas choice

A customer at the Chevron Gas station on Garibaldi Way escaped uninjured after an explosion in the fuel tank of the patron's truck, on Dec. 29.

The gas station customer had inadvertently filled their diesel truck with unleaded fuel. When the vehicle was started, the combustion chamber exploded. The truck was towed away, likely a little worse for wear.

Crash and dash

Sometime between 11 p.m. on Dec. 28 and 11 a.m. on  Dec. 29,  a Jeep Liberty (2005 to 2007 model) hit a white Ford van parked on Grant Road. The Squamish RCMP were able to recover parts belonging to the Jeep from the scene. Police ask the driver of the Jeep Liberty to contact the detachment as soon as possible.

What the?

On Dec. 29, Squamish RCMP received a report of a pickup truck stolen from a local business. The truck is seen on video surveillance leaving the business on Centennial Way, only to return with a 275-gallon Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) filled with diesel fuel. When RCMP officers arrived, there was a second empty IBC alongside the vehicle. From the video it seems the person was attempting to load both containers onto the stolen vehicle.

Forklift theft foiled

Squamish RCMP officers are asking the other men involved in attempting to steal a "Zoom Boom" telescoping forklift from a  construction site on Cleveland Avenue on Dec. 30, to come forward. The suspects were white men, in their 20s, police say. Squamish RCMP spoke with one of the men but want the other guys to contact RCMP.

Thefts from vehicles

Between Thursday, Dec. 20th and Sunday, Dec. 23rd, Squamish RCMP received two reports of theft from vehicles. In both cases, valuable items were taken.  Police remind owners to lock their cars and remove all valuable items.

Register your pooch, folks!

A lost golden retriever, found wandering in the Garibaldi Highlands, was picked up by police on Dec. 23 — because he was lost,   Thanks to a community-minded individual, RCMP officers were called, and a Squamish dog license was identified. The dog was taken to the Squamish Animal Shelter where it will be reunited with its owner using the unique identification number assigned to the dog license.
