Crash and arrest

A Squamish driver was arrested for several offences including failure to remain at the scene of an accident and dangerous driving, on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Earlier in the day, several callers and BC Ambulance Service alerted police to a crash on Highway 99 by Porteau Road, south of Squamish.  When officers arrived at the location, the driver of a Pontiac Vibe had left the scene. The driver had been travelling northbound on Highway 99, crossed the centre lane and collided with a Toyota Tacoma, which was travelling south, according to RCMP. Police found the driver in Squamish.

 

Alarming facts

Throughout the week of Feb. 4 to Feb. 10, Squamish RCMP received 18 false alarm calls, which is far above the average call volume, according to police.  The majority of these calls were due to the power outages Squamish experienced with the windstorms.  Power outages may cause an alarm system to connect with security companies, so please keep your contact information up to date.

 

B&E at a construction site

A downtown Squamish construction site was broken into overnight on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

Several items were taken from the site including three orange Hitachi air nailers with "VPAC" written on them; several harnesses with the same written on them; a blue circular Makita saw, and two green Hitachi air guns.  If anyone has any information about this theft, please call police and quote file number 2019-744.

 

Speed costs

On Thursday, Feb. 7th, a Squamish RCMP officer was driving in an unmarked police vehicle northbound on Highway 99 when he witnessed a driver exceeding the speed limit by 40 to 45 km over the posted limit. The man was pulled over by the officer and a marked police vehicle at the Stawamus Chief parking lot.  He was issued multiple tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act including excessive speed, which carries a fine of $368.  The vehicle was also impounded for seven days at the owner's expense.

 

Stolen mountain bike 

 A mountain bike was stolen from a house in the 1900 block of Garibaldi Way on Thursday, Feb. 7.  The bike is described as a red and white, 2013 Specialized downhill bike.  If you have seen this bike please contact Squamish RCMP and quote file number 2019-760.
