Squamish Fire Rescue works to put out a dumpster fire downtown.

Between Feb. 25 and March 3, Squamish RCMP worked on 146 files. Here is just a sampling of some of those files.

Smoking in vehicle leads to arrest

At a gas station on Cleveland Avenue, a Bowen Island police officer spotted several males smoking cannabis in a vehicle. When Squamish RCMP investigated, they found the driver was prohibited from driving in Canada. He was arrested for breaching and possessing drugs.

Dumpster fire

Around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 26, Squamish RCMP saw smoke coming from behind the Chieftain Hotel & Pub, and contacted the Squamish fire department. RCMP said construction materials in the dumpster had caught fire "and nothing suspicious was identified."

Rental scam

After looking at a Craigslist posting for a two-bedroom suite, a would-be tenant went to see the property, on Feb. 27, but found a sign saying the homeowners had not posted the advertisement and the unit was not for rent.

Stolen vehicle actually towed

A vehicle reported stolen from the 4000 block of Tantalus Road, around 10:15 a.m. on March 3, had actually been towed because it had been parked illegally, RCMP discovered.
"Squamish RCMP receives a number of complaints regarding parking on Tantalus Road and police along with Squamish Bylaw have increased parking enforcement in this area as of late," the police said. "The public needs to ensure they are legally parking and to take note of the signs around them."

Squamish RCMP also received 13 false alarms, one false or abandoned 911 call. They responded to eight collision investigations, one break-and-enter investigation and two mental health act calls.
