Snowmageddon mayhem

In the span of a week, between Jan. 14 and 20, Squamish RCMP responded to 25 vehicle collisions. While weather conditions including heavy snowfall and icy roads caused some of the crashes, RCMP said other incidents were because of driving too fast for the weather.

Missing in action

A 2016 Ford F150 was reported missing from Kelvin Grove Way, in Lions Bay, on Jan. 17. The next day, the Abbotsford Police Department located the stolen vehicle and made an arrest.

Weird weapons

Between Jan. 19 and Jan. 20, there were three separate reports of weapons — a machete, bear spray and knife — found in different downtown locations. The police are investigating, and the purpose of the weapons is not known. The Squamish RCMP ask anyone with information or who finds another weapon to contact them.

Phone scam

Someone reported telephone fraud to the Squamish RCMP on Jan. 16, when a person posed as the Canadian Revenue Agency and asked for personal details, saying a warrant would be issued for the person's arrest. The person told police they gave some personal details, but hung up once they got suspicious. Squamish RCMP recommend visiting the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre to report a fraud and find more information at www.antifraudcanada.ca.
