Mayor Karen Elliott appointed to board

Squamish will have at least a partial say in the governance of BC Transit, as Mayor Karen Elliott has been appointed to the transit authority’s board of directors.

Elliott is one of four new members, joining three continuing members. The board of directors supervise the management of BC Transit and appoint the chief executive officer.

“Transit and regional connectivity has a profound importance to small and medium-sized communities across the province as they work to provide citizens with transportation alternatives and choices, and I’m honoured to be able to bring this perspective to the board and work with my colleagues to help affect BC Transit’s policy and direction at a strategic level,” says Elliott in a news release.

The seven-member board has to have:

-two individuals who are members of the regional transit commission for the greater Victoria metropolitan area;

-two individuals who are either a mayor of a municipality or a chair of a regional district that has a transit service agreement, and

-three other individuals.

Also named to the board with Elliott are Lyn Hall, mayor of Prince George; Lisa Helps, mayor of Victoria’ and Blair Redlin, amember of the Victoria Regional Transit Commission.
