Suspect allegedly impersonates District of Squamish employee

Municipality issues alert and says residents should always ask for identification

A person claiming to be a District of Squamish employee was found on someone’s property.

“This person showed no identification and to the best of our knowledge was not a District employee,” wrote District spokesperson Christina Moore in a news release.

“The resident was advised to call the RCMP.”

Moore says the District received a telephone call from a concerned resident on Mamquam Road on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 20.

The caller found someone on her back deck who claimed to be a municipal employee.

He said that he was investigating possible flooding that might be occurring in basements or suites.

Moore says municipal employees always carry District of Squamish identification and would always knock on the front door of a home to speak to residents.

“Please be aware and extra vigilant in light of this situation,” she wrote.
