UPDATED: Firefighters put out blaze in Britannia Beach, south of Squamish

RCMP are investigating the fire

Police are saying the Britannia Beach fire engulfed a mobile home.

Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department and RCMP responded to a structure fire on Minaty Lane late last night (May 12) after 11 p.m.

Fire chief David Rittberg says crews put out the flames.

RCMP say the blaze was snuffed out by 1:45 a.m. and officers continue to investigate.

"Due to the intensity of the fire, the inability to enter the home until it was safe, and the arrival of the fire investigators we are unable to provide details as to the possible cause nor if anyone was inside at the time of incident," said Sgt. Sascha Banks in a news release. "I will provide updates as soon as we are able to but we need to ensure the safety of our fire investigative teams and the integrity of possible subsequent investigations."

If anyone has any information as to the circumstances surrounding the fire please contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or go to website www.solvecrime.ca

This fire marks the anniversary of a similar incident in Britannia Beach area.

A year ago to the day, a blaze broke out at the home of Maja and Jeff Aro, a popular film industry couple. They weren't hurt.

The fire engulfed their home around dinnertime on May 12 on Goat Ridge Drive. Firefighters spent seven hours battling the blaze.
